     The Operating Technician is responsible for maintaining a clean & safe work environment as well as maintaining professional working relationships with co-workers. Job duties vary daily, and all duties may not be specified below, but all are focused on the forming, finishing and packaging of fired brick used in the refractory industry.

Job Duties

  • Operate all equipment in a safe & efficient manner per company policies. Comply with all safety and plant rules.
  • Use PLC’s to run equipment.
  • Use computers to enter data, look up information, check email, etc.
  • Actively demonstrate & promote safety and a safe work environment. Also holds their team accountable to drive a best in industry safety culture.
  • Audits & observes to ensure our product meets or exceeds quality standards. Owns Quality Control compliance for their assigned working area.
  • Analyzes equipment operations, performance, and problems. Ensures issues are resolved quickly and properly.
  • Operates and programs presses, setters, pickers, scales and all equipment; off bears brick from press table to rack cart, kiln car or pallet, cleans loose material and flange before setting in prescribed manner.
  • Operates overhead crane and other transport machinery to deliver materials to presses.
  • Transfers kiln cart; transports racks and/or rack cars to and from presses and ovens.
  • Operates lift trucks to transport materials throughout the plant.
  • Performs smart manufacturing systems (SMS) charting and analysis of process variables.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on equipment, partners with maintenance to solve equipment changes & problems.
  • Actively participates in report out and production meetings.
  • Ability to effectively receive and decipher both ambiguous and direct/detailed instructions, provides innovative solutions, and both work independently or as a team member.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested. The company reserves the right to add or change duties at anytime.

Physical and Environmental Requirements

  • Physical Activity:  Requires most of the time standing, walking, using hands and fingers, reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, speaking, hearing, or smelling.
  • Lifting:  Requires lifting 10 pounds most of the time; and lifting more than 50 pounds part of the time.
  • Vision:  Requires accurate vision up close, at a distance including the ability to adjust focus use peripheral vision.
  • Environment:  Requires working near moving mechanical parts, being exposed to fumes, airborne particles; outdoor weather conditions; sometimes in wet or humid conditions, in extreme heat or cold; exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals (with PPE); in office settings; in high places; at risk of electrical shock and near vibration.
  • Noise:  Requires working in very loud conditions (over 85 decibels).
  • Shifts: As the business needs change, you may be required to work various shifts and overtime.

Qualifications

  • Understanding of basic safety/OSHA standards.
  • Must be able to use computers, or be willing and able to learn how to use computers.
  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous forklift experience preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Some manufacturing experience helpful.
  • Be on time to work, be drug free at all times and able to perform all tasks assigned to you when asked.
